Description:
As seen from the watch-tower in the centre of the town, looking toward the mountains, the highest of which is the Tehatyr-Dagh. This town, the actual capital of the Crimea, is situated on the river Salghir, which divides the new from the old city. Its motley population, including Tartars, Greeks, Armenians, Jews, Germans, and Russians, was nearly 15,000 before the war.
