This map shows Northern Europe, including the British Isles, Scandinavia, and Iceland, and the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, labeled Mare Congelatu (Frozen Sea). Four ships on the map fly the Portuguese Cross of the Order of Christ as they sail the ocean. There are many heraldic shields; some are black with red devices, others are shown in gold leaf, which is also used to pick out some islands. Many red banners and gold letters identify places by their Latin names, such as Cenabum (Orléans), Lugdunum (Lyon), and Borbetomagus (Worms, Germany).
