Description:

This is plate 12 from 'Hindoostan Scenery consisting of Twelve Select Views in India' by Francis Jukes (1746-1812) and Thomas Anburey (1759-1840) of the Corps of Engineers in Bengal.

The town of Kalpi is located in a ravine of the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh. It was the site of a large East India Company cotton factory, strategically located on the road to Kanpur (now Cawnpore).
