Young describes voyages in 1875-76 to Lancaster and Smith Sounds in search of Sir John Franklin's lost expedition, based on notes from his private journal. Young purchased the Pandora from his own funds for an expedition in search of Franklin's records.

Young states in the preface that "at the suggestion of a few friends I have requested Mr. Stanford to publish it. The volume contains merely a simple record, or log, from notes in my private journal...."

Includes additional topographical notes and discussion of Eskimos.

The rare first edition was intended for private circulation.
