In 1794 Joseph Skinner purchased a journal or miscellany in manuscript from the cargo of the St. Jago Spanish galleon. This original work had been published in Peru by a society of learned men and represented the dress and customs of the Peruvian nations. The drawings were painted by a native Peruvian artist in Lima and the book itself contained detailed accounts of Peru.
From this manuscript Skinner published a work embellished with engravings that represented an area of the world that had not been written about much prior to this. Features information about the natural history, mineralogy, commerce, typography and more as well as hand-colored illustrations of Peruvian costume.
The Peruvian territory -- Natural history -- Mineralogy -- Commerce -- The Peruvian capital -- Indian and other inhabitants of Peru - -Typography -- Miscellaneous subjects of literature and philosophy -- Appendix.
