Joseph Nash was a draughtsman and illustrator, pupil of Pugin, who is best remembered for his picturesque books of architecture, "still regarded as the most accurate views of medieval houses and castles. Nash's figures in the style of Cattermole, brought the buildings to life, without detracting from the serious antiquarianism of the book."
There were four series of this work issued, in both colored and uncolored state. In its colored state it is, as Tooley remarks, "one of the most important lithograph books".
Hand-colored lithographed title and 25 colored plates after Nash, printed by Hullmandel.
