Henry Morton Stanley was a famous Welsh explorer and adventurer in Central Africa. At the request of the New York Herald he went on an expedition in search of lost Scottish missionary, David Livingstone. He also later led expeditions in search of the source of the Nile and commanded the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. He would later be knighted in 1899.
This edition features brilliant chromolithograph illustrations of Stanley's exploits throughout Africa as well as local scenery, fauna and cultures.
Hard back binding in publisher's original red cloth covers with gilt title block, author lettering and gilt vignette bust of Stanley to the spine and the upper panel.
