Beautiful and scarce costume plates of Peruvian citizens, including dancers, smokers, vendors of watermelon, bread and milk, the elite, et al.
Plates are dated in the lithographs 1855-56. Lithographs by E. Prugue from original drawings by Bonnaffe. French translation in each lower margin.
There are 2 series of this Album, one printed in 1856 and one in 1857; this is the rarest and much sought after series. A fine hand coloured set of Peruvian costume plates. Also issued in uncolored state.
Large folio (14" x 20") original blue pebbled cloth with gilt lettering on front and blind-stamped borders on both board; 12 hand colored lithographed plates, printed in Paris. No text, no title page (as issued).
